Berthe Morisot

1841 - 1895

Berthe Morisot had a privileged upbringing. Her father, like Manet's, was a high ranking govern-ment official. The two artists met while painting at the Louvre and became good friends. Morisot eventually married Manet's younger brother. She exhibited her work in seven of the eight Impressionist exhibitions, missing only one for the birth of her daughter. Her sudden death from influenza at age 54 shocked and saddened the entire community of Impressionist artists.
