The Art Institute of Chicago – Lesson Plans and Family Activities
Click on either "Lesson Plans" or "Family Activities" for projects that will enhance students' viewing and their understanding of Impressionism. The Family Activities are geared to younger students and utilize materials found at home.
The Lesson Plans are organized by grade level and include an Objective, Activity, Discussion Questions and a suggested method of evaluation.
Level: Grades 2-8
Teach Impressionism
A selection of lesson plans that were originally created to accompany the exhibition titled, "Impressionism: Paintings Collected by European Museums." The lessons introduce the major themes of the Impressionism movement and are interdisciplinary - incorporating the arts, math, science, language arts and social studies. Each lesson has discussion questions, and activities for different curriculum areas.
Level: Grades 3-8
